“A vision of driving into a river with the kids in the back. Just to have one moment of blissful peace..., just to make the noise S T O P”

Insane Mama Moments’

A collection of Mother’s stories, releasing shame and guilt by acknowledging and anonymously sharing your own buried stories - bringing them out into the light to be seen, and healed…

Inspired by Candy Chang’s ‘Confessions’ exhibitions and Brene Brown’s amazing work into shame and guilt, and heavily influenced by my own experience of Matrescence, motherhood and maternal anger.

This is an invitation.

  • I invite you to share those moments that you have gone through on your Matrescence journey, the ones that are too shameful to share, the ones you buried deep inside yourself.

As women, and especially in motherhood, I believe we all do it.

And we let these experiences fester.

Let them define us, make us feel guilty, make us believe that they are somehow proof that we are (yet, again), less then.

    Not good enough.

    A bad mother.

Surely, no one else could have done, said, yelled or thought anything just as bad as what you did…

    But guess what…

  • I believe EVERY mother has a story (or more!) like this, a story you have buried deep inside, and possibly, maybe, never ever told anyone, because it is just too painful, too shameful, … just too horrible.

This project aims to lift the weight off your shoulders by finding, acknowledging and writing these stories out.

UNEARTH your hidden Insane Mama Moment’.

And then share it with me anonymously, and feel the release.

By sharing these stories as an exhibition anonymously in Dublin towards the end of the year, and being able to read what others have written, this project aims to help you realise you are not alone.

I would like us all to see that almost every mama has had their own personal ‘Insane Mama Moment’ experience, and together we can move towards releasing, forgiving, and healing ourselves.

  • A future communal exhibition could be real-life or digital, printed or projected, or even read on a podcast... There are many options. A Gallery Manager in my former life, I will try balance the emotional nature of these stories while choosing visually impactful options.

You story will be anonymised in terms of handwriting, and collected without any attachment to your name or email address.

I am asking for names and email addresses separate from your story, solely for the purpose of being able to contact you to help track your story keep you up to date with this project and updated on developments. To give you a chance to really see how your input and vulnerability might make the world a little less ‘guilty’ for mamas.

You are part of the change.

    You are so brave.

Thank you for your trust and vulnerability.

Anonymous Mama, 2022

At the moment, this project only exists in the ‘real’ aka analogue world. It was launched at the Matrescence Festival organised by Lizzy Humber and Claire Tonti in Exeter, UK, on June 21st-22nd 2024.

We are already planning more events to collect your stories, and are actively exploring digital ways of holding them.

Thank you so much!
